Overview

Alfonso's Mexican Food, nestled conveniently at 1925 E Brown Rd in Mesa, AZ, offers a refreshing take on traditional Mexican cuisine, with a particular focus on hearty breakfast plates and burritos. The restaurant stands out for its approachable, clean atmosphere and friendly staff, creating a space where locals and visitors alike can enjoy familiar flavors without pretense.

The heart of Alfonso's menu lies in its robust burritos, which range from savory adovada to the indulgently packed Angry Poncho with its bold combination of asada, fries, and jalapeños. Each burrito reflects careful preparation and balanced seasoning, highlighting authentic components like carne asada, chorizo, and fresh guacamole. For those seeking something more classic, the breakfast burritos featuring eggs, potatoes, and cheese deliver comfort with every bite—well-executed and satisfying without relying heavily on salsa, though a well-stocked salsa bar is available for those who want to enhance their meal.

Patrons frequently emphasize Alfonso's consistent portion sizes and the freshness evident in each dish. This authenticity draws a broad audience: from fitness enthusiasts stopping by post-workout to families craving traditional Mexican morning fare. The restaurant crafts its identity by melding accessibility with quality, providing an alternative to bigger chains while avoiding excess greasiness commonly found elsewhere.

While the exterior may not immediately grab attention, stepping inside reveals a clean, unpretentious space. Customers appreciate this simplicity, alongside thoughtfully prepared foods such as their perfectly crisp rolled tacos and the well-loved chicken chimichanga. Even longtime skeptics find themselves returning thanks to Alfonso’s flavorful yet moderately sized breakfast burritos—offering a less greasy but equally authentic experience compared to other local staples.

In summary, Alfonso's Mexican Food excels by delivering reliable, well-seasoned Mexican breakfast specialties in an inviting Mesa setting. It appeals to those who value genuine flavor and a welcoming atmosphere without the fluff. Whether you’re looking for a robust start to your day or a casual place to enjoy time with friends and family, Alfonso’s offers a memorable and satisfying meal.

I first found out about mission BBQ when I was visiting a very good friend of mine that I served with in Vietnam 58 years ago I enjoyed The mission barbecue that we frequented in Maryland while on my trip, then I found out that we had one in Arizona and I've been there three or four times now It's several miles from my home but the drive is worthwhile I enjoy the ambience and the people that frequent the establishment I recommend it highly.

Love this place!. My husband and I love this place! If your from California and miss the Mexican food this is the place to go. The food and portion sizes are delicious and consistent. Come here every Saturday (pretty much) and plan on continuing to do so for as long as possible!

Stopped here on my way home from the gym for breakfast. Dang this was a good burrito. Steak, egg, cheese, and potato burrito done just right. I don't like it when a burrito needs salsa in order to be good. This isn't one of those. It completely stands on it's own without salsa. BUT if you're a salsa person they do have a good salsa bar. Check this place out. I highly recommend it for breakfast. Now I gotta come back and try their lunch menu

Daily specials are a great deal! I've had numerous different items from their menu & I'm never disappointed. Better prices than that other well known place.

From the outside, we've always been a little skeptical about this place... but then we decided why not, and gave it a try! Omg! So glad we did! The flavor is awesome, its alot like Filabertoes, except not as greasy and the breakfast burritos are not as big. But they are on point with flavor and pretty good. The restaurant is clean, staff is friendly. I didn't like the taste of their salsa so much. It was too salty. Their chips are made well and not greasy. Also try the chicken chimichanga, it's pretty good. So to give you an example, compared to Filabertoes: $10 Alfonso breakfast burrito [not greasy, average size, great flavor] $10 Filabertoes breakfast burrito [a bit greasy, Large size, great flavor]

I ordered over the phone on a Tuesday night. I ordered a quesadilla, a Tuesday special $5.00 w/ a drink(which is a bean and cheese burrito enchilada style), a chicken taco, and an abogado (pork) taco. Everything turned out really good. The bean and cheese special is flipping huge. The red sauce is fantastic! It was a pretty slow night, only the cashier and one cook. I would recommend this place for good and inexpensive Mexican food.
